John Rostron

John Rostron is a live music promoter of gigs in Cardiff. Until recently he was also Commerical Director at The Point in Cardiff Bay – overseeing all programming and promotion of the venue. With Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens he organizes the now annual Sŵn Festival which takes place across a dozen venues in Cardiff through one Autumn weekend. He’s also created other Sŵn events including concerts at the ICA, tours of Wales, and forthcoming Sŵn concerts in New York, Iceland and 2010’s SXSW. Recently he created the Association of Promoters and Events Cardiff (APE Cardiff) a body representing all live music and clubnight promoters in the city to give them a voice speak to Council and Authorities in response to increasing pressures on live music within the capital.

John runs the My Kung Fu record label, an independent label with worldwide distribution which has fostered releases from Richard James (ex of Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci), Soft Hearted Scientists and the first ever Welsh language release from Cerys Matthews amongst others. John also owns Sebon, an online retail site for music of Welsh origin, and is the co-creator and author of ‘Sleeveface’.

John sits on the board of the Welsh Music Foundation as an elected stakeholder representative.
Previously John has managed artists including the American folk singer Marissa Nadler and acted as live agent for Welsh songstress Cerys Matthews. He’s produced a radio series for MTV, programmed acts for Welsh music television company Avanti, and helped book acts and then handled the media for the Tsunami Relief Concert at the Millennium Stadium. When not absorbing music he practices Nam Pai Chuan Kung Fu and fell running.
