UK Music aim to ensure that their voice is heard and that policymakers continue to recognise the important cultural, social and economic contribution that the UK music industry makes the UK and the world.
Creative Music Education
The creative industries play an increasingly vital role to the future success of the UK. Encouraging young people to be aware of the value of creativity and develop a respect for creators’ rights is an important part of this new landscape. Equally important is equipping them with the right mix of business and enterprise skills to ensure a vibrant and healthy music sector in the UK in the future. We are at the heart of discussions on creative education and skills development, and are involved in a number of education and awareness initiatives.
Policy within the EU
Since most of the copyright legislation is harmonised at European level, e.g. through the Copyright Directive, it is particularly important that the interests of the UK Music industry are represented in Brussels
In Europe we work with several Departments of the Commission, in particular DG Internal Market, DG Education and Culture, and DG Information Society; we also regularly liaise with Members of the European Parliament to promote the UK music industry’s view.
