Hello, my name is Carl and I help people to understand and converse on the social web. I work freelance and also as a partner in NativeHQ, an online media consultancy and training provider based in Cardiff.
At the moment we are working with National Theatre Wales to develop a website and strategy which is open, friendly and inclusive. We hope this contradicts what many would associate with the often austere theatre scene in this country, towards a more human approach and away from glib talk of getting “bums on seats” and so on.
While at university I originally studied Computer Science and Mathematics by day while promoting events and DJing at night. The intersection between software, human beings and creative business was to become a recurring theme in my working life.
In 2007 I launched sleeveface.com to collect entertaining and creative photographs of people posing with vinyl record sleeves. This drew the attention of press and TV around the world which led to a Sleeveface book publishing deal with Artisan Workman publishing, USA. My co-authored book compiling Sleeveface pictures has recently been published worldwide.
Before now, in 2003 I was a co-founder of Plug Two, the artist management, gig and music promotions company. The following year I co-founded Plug Two’s offshoot record label, My Kung Fu. I went on to sign and work with artists such as Richard James, Cerys Matthews, The Voices, Truckers Of Husk, Camera, Soft Hearted Scientists (all Wales) as well as Marissa Nadler, Josephine Foster (USA).
I am one day older than MTV.
