Professor Hefin Rowlands

Professor Hefin Rowlands was awarded a University of Wales Personal Chair in 2002 in Quality Management. He currently holds the post of Director of Research and Enterprise at the University of Wales, Newport with overall responsibilities for developing research culture across the University.

He is a member of the University’s  Institute Advanced Broadcasting advisory panel. He worked for over 10 years at Cardiff  University where he achieved his PhD in 1994 on research in combining Artificial Intelligence (AI) eg. Neural Networks and Genetic Algorithms, with quality tools and techniques.

He has successfully supervised over 10 PhD students to completion and has been external examiner at a number of UK Universities including Nottingham, Warwick and Southampton. He regularly reviews papers on Quality Management for a wide range of international journals. He is an editorial board member of the International Journal for Competitive Advantage. He is a Chartered member of the IET and an Executive Committee member of the IET’s Management Professional Network.
